Description of Female Coding Club including character education, including Women in Construction:
The Coding Club is the place to take an interest in technology and turn it into a productive skill. Designed for boys and girls in elementary school who want to try out programming, the Coding Club is a fun way to learn to code in a social, after-school setting. In today’s digital world, coding is a fundamental skill alongside math and reading, but too few kids have the opportunity to learn to program because it is rarely taught in school. We provide modules for various grade levels- featuring videos, puzzles, group activities and game design. Our curriculum is mapped to Common Core standards and includes video lectures from Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates. There is an equal number of membership slots available to girls and boys in order to encourage women in the STEM field.
Roster & Description of 2nd-5th Grade LEGO club rush for K-1:
A 5-minute LEGO challenge was given to each class (Kindergarten through 1st Grade). Ms. Campbell, Mr. Alexandre, and a handful of current 2nd-5th Grade LEGO Club students assisted several groups. Students were given age appropriate challenges. Students showed enthusiasm for club participation in the 2019-2020 school year.
LEGO Club helps students reinforce creativity and engineering skills. We encourage all students to see the LEGOs as just a start. Each creation has a story. LEGO Club allows kids to be kids whilst teaching them the literal learning blocks of a complete STEM education.
